Hi all! I'm new to raising chickens and have ordered my very first chickens ever! I was so overwhelmed and torn between all the breeds (even after hours and hours of research) that I decided to leave it up to fate and order the Ornamental Layer Collection through McMurray's. I'm hoping that a few of you have ordered the same assortment and can share some pics or description of what you got. I ordered the 15 package and also added 3 Ameraucana and of course the mystery chick. I'm from Michigan so I delayed my shipment until the 2nd week of April.

ok so NO ONE has ever ordered this assortment??? How about the Rarest of Rare assortment???

I ordered ornamental layers (15)last year and got 2 Egyptian fayoumis, 3 Sicilian buttercups, 2 golden campines, 2 white face Spanish, 3 silver pheonix, 1 modern bb game, and 2 Dominique

I was kinda disappointed not to get any top hat or feather footed in my variety but all the chicks were alive and thrived. I also got the brown egg layer collection. Total I received 36 including 5 packing roosters (red sexlinked males and my freebie which was a part ride Cochin) all 30 were actually pullets and my freebie was a roo I was also disappointed that 6 of the 15 brown egg layers were red sexlinks.. I didn't expect so many cross breeds but they lay great.

Thanks for replying! :) Do you have any pictures of the laying hens after they grew up? I would love to see what they look like!

Please ignore the lavender hen and the barred rooster, all the other chickens were part of my McMurray order hatched last may. Out of my 12 remaining hens I get 11-14 eggs a day. Pretty impressive since some aren't suppose to be good egg layers.

The middle pic shows a golden campine, buttercup, red sexlink and pheonix hens

I have ordered the Ornamental Layer Collection as well as the Rarest of the Rare Collection from Murray Mcmurray's Hatchery several times and have never been disappointed with what I received.
I have never had any health problems with any of the chicks either. I have always bought and used their Quik Chik for the first 6-8 weeks. I found that this produces very very hearty birds that can tolerate most anything...our climate is heat and humidity to 90 plus and cold to -25 or more.
My recommendation is to buy from Murray McMurray Hatchery!!!
