Questions I have one pot belly about 6 years old know he was diagnosed with arthritis. I want to be able to slit his shed with chicken and rabbits on upper levels. But I still need him to be able to get around. Any suggestions?

Hello,I currently own & care for zero pigs but want to get some in the future and start breeding preferably a breeding pair of Berkshires or Hampshires is what I will be searching for when the time comes around. But until then I would really love to read and learn more about these fascinating creatures! Please post lots pictures!

And I will have a lot of questions for you pig owners!
If you are going to breed pigs I definetely recomend a Berkshire and Poland China cross! I have shown pigs that are this breed and brought home a lot of awards! Their meat is very delicious also!

The pig to breed is the one you like. We used to have Durocs and my husband raised Yorkshires when he was in FFA. Yorkshires are very long bodied and are good mothers. At least ours were. So were our Durocs. I didn't have much luck with Berkshires. Ours produced small litters. If I were looking for a pet I would choose a Berkshire because I like the stubby noses. The Poland Chinas we had were aggressive and difficult to handle. If I were going to raise pigs today I would choose a Landrace or a Large Black. Why? Because I like their big ears. Also the Landrace are very long bodied like the Yorkshire. The Large Black is a heritage breed that does well on pasture. They are very gentle pigs. You will do best with the breed you like and one that you can find good quality breeding stock in your area.

Yes we have had durocs in the past but I just decided that I liked berkshire poland china crosses better. I love all kinds of pigs though! Merry Christmas and goodluck with your pigs!
