Well we lost another baby last night :( Three of them have had pasty butt and I cleaned them all off and rubbed some olive oil on it but I guess one didn't make it over night.

We're thinking of going back to the farmer we bought them from and buying several more since we're down to three. Do you think it would be okay for us to immediately put them in with the three we currently have or do we need to separate them for a short "quarantine" time? We got out first batch last weekend so they would have been separated for a week exactly.

Tell the farmer you are having problems, and maybe he can give you some insight as to what's going on. They shouldn't be dying like that, I think I'd look elsewhere for healthier chicks. And I also don't think I'd put them together, either.

Hello,
My name is Mariah I am a first grade teacher. Two other teachers and I just did the incubator project and together we hatched 17 healthy Black Australorp chicks.I picked that breed because they are good layers. We are looking for a good home for them by 3/6/15 when they will be 4.5 weeks old. We are not sure which are roosters yet. We need the new owner to commit to taking pictures of the chicks as they grow into chickens every week or so and e-mailing them to us so we can keep our students updated. Please e-mail me and let me know how many chicks you can take.

If Gabby216 doesn't want them,There's a thread on here for free animal and bird giveaways, and also a sale thread. Post on there, and you should get lots of takers. Don't forget to mention where you are. Congrats on the babies.

I think we're wanting to stick with getting more from the same owner (choosing healthier ones this next round since we were so excited we just picked at random) so we don't have to worry about cross contamination of any kind. But thank you for the offer! As a fellow teacher (7th grade english) it's exciting to hear about successful projects like that in school.
