wild goose?

I have no idea how I am missing updates to so many forum topics that I am subscribed to unless they are going to my junk email?? Every once in a while one like this one "update?" Comes through.
What state are you in with the muted swans?
I am in Ohio with the Metroparks system.
Years ago there was a female Canadian here that had fishing line wrapped around both legs near the feet.
I called the parks system and was one of many that had called.
They told me there were so many they would not come out to help her.
I finally caught her, brought her home cut the line off with a cuticle scissors. One foot had already died. The other did start circulating and come back.
I took her to a vet that does wildlife rehab.
He removed the dead foot, clipped her wings and gave her back to me. He told me to feed her heavy and she might stay but I it was my decision as to let the flight feathers grow in or reclip next year. I did let them grow in. I noticed her from the house doing short flights in the yard out to the pond. She stayed a year. One night I was out with Jordan and Reebok walking in the yard.
I had named her Cassie. I called her to come out with us. She flew out, stood in front of me for about two minutes and flew off over the fence.
I would think in the case of a goose that couldn't make it on its own a special permit could be obtained.
I have had the same case with a Mallard that had a broken wing. Found her in the yard when I came home. Vet amputated her wing and returned her. I told him before hand that I would take care of her .Mallards are migratory birds but we used to be able to buy them all day long for $3.00 at the farm stores.

well yesterday she was released, after I released her I let my geese free range, let's just say they where screaming when they found out the goose was gone, and I guess the wild goose heard them and she flew back. so she went back in the pen with the rest of the geese tonight. the geese free range from 8 am - 8 pm so she can leave anytime she wants. technically I'm not forcing her to stay.

Glad to read she is doing well.
Did the wound heal?
That is the key, that she is not being held forcibly
There is a good chance she will stay until at least the wild ones come through and she picke up with a new mate.
Job well done. Congratulations
Linda

I am in Ohio as well. Let me just state that we didn't let any unsympathetic game wardens keep us from helping the birds. My parents currently have a mute whose beak is all wonky from fishing line. The line was wrapped around the bird's beak and neck and did irreversible damage to the growth plate. He and his mate are sitting on eggs atm.

We can't turn our back on any animal in need or we wouldn't be humans.
