Day befor yesterday my daughter and I spotted one sauntering through our yard at noon like it owned the place. By the time I could get my gun it was gone but if you sit on our porch at night you hear them howling ALL around you.

Usually see them the most at dusk and dawn. Did have one saunter up about 100 ft from my house at noon about a month ago.

I live in the high desert area in Joshua Tree and see coyotes periodically, but more so, their yelping at night close by... I am still getting coop built while my RIR's are growing well in the garage, but have concerns once they go into the coop. My fencing along the run is tight and well tacked down and wood corners reinforced with metal angles... The feed store suggested I also place cement along the ground to prevent coyotes and bobcats from digging into run... It's been a lot of work, but want to keep the girls safe... I have seen one large coyote right along my backyard fencing in broad daylight and he only took off after I made noise in the yard....

I live in Bakersfield, Ca., & we've seen them many times during the daytime. I've watched my horses chase them, pretty funny. They've also tried to lure our dogs away from us when we are walking in the foothills. At about midnight they really start howling!

Rides2far... In high desert here in Joshua Tree it can be hit or miss for coyotes. They come out yelping usually around 0230 and wake my dogs. When I go out with dogs, I can hear the coyotes around the fence, but I use a high LED LIGHT that flickers intermittently and then they run.... I have now heard so many poultry people telling me that coyotes are testing before they make an entry into the fenced area. Staying on guard ....
