Brooder size

that's 10 chicks, for the first few weeks, I think general rule of thumb is a square ft per chick. about weeks 3-4, depending on the breed (bigger needs more sooner) you'll want to double that....

I built a new brooder box for 8 chicks that's 2x8. Mine are blue americaunas, so not a large breed. I plan on leaving them in it 4 weeks or so, by then they'll have enough feathers and it will be warm enough to move them to the coop. I'll keep them inside with the heat lamp high enough to hold the temps around 75, unless it gets gets close to that during the day, then I'll let em out to the run.

I guess I better get busy building this coop and run, LOL I drew it up today on google sketchup. The wife wants a coop that looks like a cabin, porch and all! what mama wants, mama gets, as close as I can anyway, LOL

How big of a brooder is sufficient enough for 10 chicks? And how long can they stay in it? Their brooder is about 3.5'x 3'.
I have ten chicks, and my brooder is 3x4 and they are going on 4 weeks old and have plenty of room. I added a additional set of boards tot he top to allow more head room and add in some roosts for them and they love it. I will post some pictures also.
