When I made my way towards the coop today, the girls were squawking like mad because I hadn't let them out yet. So I opened the door to let them out to make my fussy girls happy. They look out.. See the snow.. And decide they Now don't want out.

Ok, whatever. I leave the door open for them and go back inside to do what not.
And when I go back and check the Girls.. 1.. 2.. OMG where's the third!!
Then I start hearing scratching.. Sure enough she's inside, thank god.. Aannd, what she doing, she's making a Nest!!!!
Or at least trying to.

When I open the door.. This is what I saw.

Silly Chicken!
This is not how you make a Nest!!

The girls are going to be twenty weeks next Monday
And I'm just so overjoyed to know that their so close.

double Post :p

Went and checked raven again to see if she was having fun making HER nest.... And

There was an egg!!
Thought this was kind of early seeing as their not even fully twenty weeks old yet.. , and there was a little bit of blood, but that should be in the norm for her first egg. Its not very big, which I'm really happy about.. Was So worried she might have troubles because she's So Big.. Not fat.. Just big

I check to see if her vent was ok.. And, She's all Good :3
Just so excited!! Its the first Egg I've gotten from the girls!!

Woohoo

I guess she knew what she was doing after all.

Her nest might not theoretically have been perfect to look at, but she did indeed create a nice, quite, private spot for herself, and she got the job done!

Congratulations!

Thank you for sharing my joy :3

When I saw she was starting to make a nest, I had no idea she was ready to lay.
I thought my girls wouldn't start until they were 20 or 21 weeks old
She sure had News for me.

LOL that's funny!!!

You can try putting the straw back in, I try to use a 'flake' of straw as it holds together better, and form a tight 'bowl'.
Eventually they will stop rearranging the straw so much, just be glad she laying in the nests I guess.
