Picking Chicks Up at Post Office Question

I am picking up my order of chicks from the post office tomorrow (Sunday). They are from McMurray's Hatchery. Does anyone know if I need to open the box in the presence of the postal worker to look for dead chicks or can I just wait until I get home to look? I can't find anything about this on McMurray's website. All the website says is to let them know if any die with the first 48 hours. Thanks!
 
I have always been told to open the box in the presence of a postal employee, preferably the post master. This is done for claim purposes.
