That's completely irrelevant. And no, I was NOT beaten. I also do not beat or "spank" my dogs, but they are all extremely well behaved, well trained animals. They heel off-leash, they don't chase my cat, chickens or horses, they don't counter-surf, they don't bark incessantly, etc. Beating is not discipline nor is it training.

Quote:A beating? Seriously, you advocate that as a training method? Please tell me you don't own dogs.
I do own dogs actually.... And by the way I didn't mean beat them to the ground. Quick question....when dogs are functioning as a pack and one steps out of line what happens? They get bit. Just the way it is. Dogs are not people. They learn a curtain way, same as learning to heal on a choke collar they learn that pulling means pain and they stop. Few wacks with the dead chicken won't actually hurt them but it will get your point across and fast. Or I guess you can sit it down and have a reasonable discussion with and makes sure it understands your feelings on the subject

I will try this probably without success, to make it more clear. Choke collars are not meant to cause pain. They are meant to get the dog's attention. Shock collars are also not designed to cause pain but to teach a dog. Both tools can be used incorrectly and cause pain, which is not a good way to train ANY animal. I never said to "discuss" thing over with a dog. Dogs are just that.. dogs. But beating them, smacking them around and causing pain are NOT the proper ways to train a dog. End of discussion.

The only thing they are likely to learn from that is to avoid you the next time they see you carrying a dead chicken. Worse yet they may begin to be wary of you any time you have anything in your hands. Or wary of you in general. I prefer to have my dogs choose to defer to me rather than fear me.
