Giardiasis treatment?

We took one of my ducks to the vet for a prolapsed vent less than a week ago (she needed stitches) and the vet told us that he believed she also had Giardiasis. He gave us some medication to treat this that we have to give her through an oral syringe, but I forgot to ask about the rest of the flock. I'm pretty sure that if she has this, some of the others do too and I have noticed that some of my ducks have had diarrhea-like poop lately. Also, she is separated right now as she heals from the prolapse. I would hate for her to get it again once she is reintroduced to the flock. The vet said that he believes the diarrhea was part of the reason she may have prolapsed.

Does anyone know of an over-the-counter antibiotic that treats this? (I also have chickens in the same area that may also need treatment.) Or do I just need to call the vet and see about getting some sort of prescription for the whole flock?
 
I've never owned ducks. Giardia can be treated in chickens with metronidazole. It can be purchased online as "Fishzole." Dosage is one 250mg tablet given orally to each chicken once a day for 5 days. I suppose metronidazole or flagyl "Fishzole" (all the same thing) can be given to ducks, check with your vet. Dosage would be the same as with chickens.

Denfinetly pays to shop around a little. We also found a source for 400mg tablets that's even less expensive than the aqua-zole.

I took a stool sample from one of my hen's into the vet to have it tested. She hadn't laid an egg in over a week and I had never wormed her, or the other 4 girls. She wasn't showing any symptoms of being egg bound, so I thought I'd just take a stool sample in to have it checked. Other than that, she was acting normal. Her results for worms came back negative, but she tested positive for giardia. I'm kind of baffled that it came back positive for that. I don't really understand how she could have picked that up. I do understand that it comes from contaminated water, but we don't really have any standing water around in our yard. They get fresh water every day. I have 2 dogs that get tested for this every year, but have never tested positive. Anyways, just curious if it is recommended that I treat the others too? Or, do I need to keep her separated from the other girls until she is treated? This is my first flock, so I'm new to all of this. :)

Will you be treating with metronidazole?

They actually just called with the results yesterday and I'm suppose to take her in Thursday afternoon, so I'll find out then what they are planning on treating her with. I have to say I knew nothing about giardia in chickens, so I came on here to try and get a little knowledge before going into the vet. I see from your earlier posts in this thread, the link to the Aqua-Zole. I've saved that link and I think I will order some if it's recommended that I treat all of the girls, since I'm sure the medicine the vet is going to prescribe her will be expensive.
