Do you cull male guineas

I'm just curious. Do most folks cull male guineas? (Are they called roosters?) I'm thinking since guineas aren't typically kept for eggs, and more for a job (insect eating), that keeping them would be wiser than getting rid of them. What say you?
 
I would like to know too. Getting our first guineas in a day or two.

Based on what I've read the meat is supposed to taste like pheasant. My understanding is you can cull a guinea flock the same way you do your chicken flock. However, I believe the ratio of males to females can be higher in a guinea flock.
 
Back when we had our flock of guineas, it was for tick eradication so no one was ever culled. We did eat the eggs and I do know some people do eat guinea fowl.
 
We don't plan on having to cull unless we have a trouble bird. Our hope is to have at least half left at the end of 6 months. We live in a forest and have lots of predators.
 
I see no reason to cull male guineas unless they are troublemakers. Males are usually a lot less trouble than the females. They are not as noisy and you don't have to spend evenings searching for hidden nests. Male guineas don't fight to the death like roosters do. Male guineas are called cocks.

Thanks for the input. I was kinda thinking we probably shouldn't cull - because of the ticks. Didn't know if there was a ratio, like 2:1 for female to male.

Red Horse Ranch, I've got 2 guinea that pick on the others. Bad. One is male, 1 is female. 2 out of 4. Is this inerited? They coop up at night with the chickens but the girls all avoid these two. Is this common? Came from Cackle.
 
I have been raising guineas for many years, never cull a male. The extra males are your free rangers that clear every tick in the area, I have 19 that free range I never let my hens out. One cock can cover 5 hens so you pick your healthiest or prettiest males per every 4 or 5 hens and let the rest run. If you get one that is slow or troublesome you can eat him.

Sometimes a guinea can just be too aggressive to keep. With my first 12 guineas the alpha male became very aggressive to my chickens. And two of his buddies would join in the 'fun'. I put up with it for a year but it just got worse. Once I sold the alpha the other guineas have never bothered the chickens. Chances are, if your aggressive male was taken out, the female would stop her aggression. I don't think it is genetic. I just think each bird has their own personality like people do. And sometimes they aren't very likeable!
