Murphy here again! My Eight week old chicks are out of the brooder, out of their pen and integrated with the 7 bigs that I had. The transition went well by using the portals so the little ones had a place to run to if they got scared or harassed by the bigs. Everyone gets along pretty well, a couple of the bigs are a bit harsh with the littles but the littles have learned to just get out of the way and no one has been injured. Just the usual pecking order kind of thing. I removed the littles outside run pen, where they had been sleeping, three days ago. They caught on pretty fast that going into the coop at night was the right thing to do. Only they are not getting on the roost, they pile up inside a couple of nest boxes. I have gone out and placed them on the roost for the past three nights But his will get old!!! Fast.
So am looking for ideas for how to get the littles to go onto the roost at night. I am very glad they are going in the coop but I can't block off the nests as the bigs are still laying.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any ideas. I wouldn't mind them just sleeping on the floor in a pile if they wanted, I just don't want them to get the idea that the nest boxes are for sleeping.
