Is anyone else having issues with the USPS and dead chicks?

I received my order from Myer hatchery 2 weeks ago in freezing Pa temps and all 16 of my chicks arrived via express mail, alive and peeping. They were packed with extra bedding and a heat pack. The little cuties are all happy and healthy. They have been THE BEST hatchery I have ordered from.

Also good to hear for me we are prdering as well and that's good news!

Currently in a tiff with USPS over this same issue. I ordered my babies from MPC and they were shipped via USPS priority mail express 1 day shipping with "guaranteed" delivery by today at 3 pm. My chicks were last scanned yesterday in Ohio and have not been heard from since. When I went up to the post office to give them all of my information to call me as soon as they hear anything, the postal workers just did not care. I gave my information to the woman and explained that that my chicks may well have starved or died of dehydration by now. She just said "oh I hope not. I don't need to start my day off like that. I hate when they arrive dead. It makes for a bad day". It took everything I had not to reach across the counter and choke her. I managed to growl that her day wouldn't be as bad as the day my chicks have had. I then successfully left without setting the place on fire The blatant disregard that these are live animals who are enduring great stress and suffering in this experience makes me shake with anger.

I may not have met these chicks yet but I already love them. I get ready just thinking about them stuck in a box -scared, hungry and possibly staring at dead or dying siblings. This woman's poor attitude and casual statement that they do in arrive dead with enough frequency for her to find it annoying did not instill confidence that my babies were being treated with any kind of respect.

Also the USPS customer service number is a loop that will not let you make a claim and the Cleveland office only goes to voicemail even during business hours. Additionally, according to USPS's fine print- the guaranteed time of arrival and money back guarantee are not applicable when live animals are the cargo.

So for now I am stuck in limbo with the helpful answer from USPS being "they are probably just lost".

What did you want her to do?

Your average post-office employee can't reroute a plane in midair. There's nothing she can do to help you.

I know there is nothing she can do other than show some compassion that these animals are suffering due to human error rather than being annoyed that her day would start off badly. Working in the veterinary industry, I know that bad news has to be given, but if done correctly and with some true compassion, the blow is softened. By acting as if these things are minor inconveniences, you make the affected party more upset and more hopeless.

She has a good job with benefits, in an air conditioned building. She has no reason to act like an insensitive ***.

And she could've given me a working customer service number.

Just like when the kitchen messes up a food order but the irritation is voiced to the waiter- she isn't responsible for this error but since she is the first line and face of the company in question it IS her job to handle these complaints graciously.

Have you received your chicks yet? I ordered some from McMurray's that were hatched and shipped on the 26th of June. I was disappointed that they were shipped on a Friday, but they arrived on Monday and the PO called me to come and get them. All were alive and well and all have survived. They are chasing each other around in the coop now, establishing who is who and so forth. I'm going to start free ranging them in a few weeks when they are a little bigger. They are fascinated with the big girls that live in the other coop! Hope you get your order without any casualties.

Are you talking express, priority, or parcel post (regular)? I think express mail is guaranteed. Surprised that they were shipped on a Friday. I've had problems w/ fairly expensive orchid flask shipments and priority mail.

What she said doesn't sound insensitive to me at all. It sounds like you're upset and projecting on her.

Sorry - mine were shipped priority mail. My PO person was wonderful! She called me twice to make sure I was still coming!
