Started with 8 then 6 more came. Its ok some will be roos. Not my fault that the store had chicks and the kids wanted one each. One each turned into 2 each cause you dont want them lonely for the 15 min ride home. 18 No more my hubby says everyday he leaves for work. I have been good just loking when we are at the feed store so good when the little fluff balls seem to call my name. its not my fault my sil wants to hatch some out for her classroom and if its successful 10 will need a place to go. The children need to experience watching and learning right?!! Right exactly I cannot deprive them of that.

This is helping my guilt sooooo much!!! I'm not alone! I've been joking about Chickens Anonymous, and so have others here. Guess we have kind of an online 12 step program!
Started with three. Currently at 18. My "landscaping" projects are changing every day/every minute. I should not be allowed on any website or certainly not in any feed store!!!!
Still, I'm loving it!
Here's a pic of the "maze" my son built to keep the oldest three (5 1/2 weeks old) who were loving their outside coop, but had to be moved back inside due to a spring snowstorm that brought about a foot of snow. I'm not saying who had the worse cabin fever: my son or the chickens:)

Love the maze. Kept him and them busy that way.
I was up to 42 chickens with 23 of them being babies. I now have 3 more. I got 3 BSL to try to give to my very broody cochin.
She said no in a very clear way.

They are now in my office in the indoor brooder. My grown son just popped in and seeing the new additions says "They are so small. You should get more so the brooder isn't so empty."

Ooooh chicken math lol
this is my first year having anything to do with raising chickens

At TSC, We bought 10 chicks
(4 sexlinks, 2 RIR, 2 buff orpingtons and 2 asst.bantams)
And 2 ducks
(Rouen and a swedish)

One of the sexlinks died
i just wanted to replace the one, so instead of TSC where the min is 6, I went to ranch supply
I picked up 2 barred rock pullets and 2 RIR pullets

Then this past thurs I wanted get 1 or 2 more ducks so I went back to ranch
they only had 4 ducks, I would have gone home but the little boy I watch wanted to go to TSC to see more chicks

I left there with 4 banties (no idea yet what they are)
2 brown leg horns and 2 egyptian...something

We now have 2 ducks and 21 chicks

Chicken Math? What chicken math, wants 2 chicks, store said minimum 6. I need to beat them on their own game bought 10.

Chicken grew, chicken laid eggs, chicken entertained us. This year, before Easter,I sweet talked the store manager (same store)to sell me only 4, 3 days later wife sweet talked me to get 6 more chicks (eggs supply & demand she said). My thoughts we got more than enough chicken than we needed, a week later a friend texted me "4 Black Copper Maran available" (mind you $10 each), and I got them all. Chicken math?

Wanted 2 - less than a year later 24 feathered friends? I think I need to take accounting remedial classes.

Those are fighting words in my family!!!  My hubby and family have threatened that for the past 2 years!  I know, if I pull in the driveway from work and see a massive amount of cars & I have not planned a party, I am going to keep on driving!!!  I have mapped out a plan to enter the back of the property to feed the chickens in case they wait all night.   I know that I do not have a problem.  If I do, then you do.  How can so many intelligent, hard working citizens succumb to the world of chickens?  Because, we know what we're doing!

I was watching chick TV this evening and my husband came looking for me
he laughed at me and then started watching also

All of a suddended he says, 'why does it seem like we all of a sudden have a huge amount of chickens? '

I kept quiet, I stay home and the feed stores provide lovely entertainment for my littles

Then he says, '21...we have TWENTY-ONE chickens....HOW did we get that many?!'

I pleaded the 5th

What he doesn't know is I'll be probably getting a couple more ducks next week when they come in

DH hasn't counted ours yet.....Most of the time the chickens are out free ranging on the 3 acres, so makes it really hard (thankfully) for him to count them all.

Two of my chicks turned out to be cockerels. Out they go! But they have to be replaced, right? We have a local poultry shop that sells chicks, but there is a minimum of 3! What am I to do? I guess I will just have to get an extra :). Not the worst case of chicken math, but I thought I should note it.

Wonder just how many spouses or SO don't know exactly the number of chickens living with them?.......Just wondering.......not that I would know a thing about this or anything......
