Hi everyone! I just thought I'd join in here as I am also from Bakersfield big_smile.png I am a newbie, I just got my first 4 coturnix quails about a week and a half ago...I was hoping to pick out 3 hens and a roo but ended up with 1 hen and 3 Roo's so I will probably be getting more wink.png hahaha Anyways does anyone know of someone who keeps bantam cochins here in bakersfield? I finally talked my husband into letting me have them but I really don't want to have live chicks shipped, and as of right now I don't own an incubator that I'd trust with those precious eggs. (I have a Styrofoam one I made but it still needs to be modified)

Hi. I am also in Bakerfield. We raise Cortinix quail also. We raise them for both eggs and meat and sell our eggs also but not our birds. I think you might be hard pressed to find anyone in this town that even sells pure breed chickens of any kind. All we have found is misinformation on the breed types anyone is selling. And most have been cross breeds. I know no one selling cochins here. So be careful if you think you've found some by really doing your homework on the breed, if purebred is what you are looking for. We have a small flock of now 7 hens and a Frizzle roo. We just purchased 2 hens a few days ago that are still in quarantine. I think they are a mix of possibly Old English and heaven knows what. But I'll be posting pix here of them shortly to get some expert advice of what breed they are just so I know. I don't really care if mine are a cross or not as long as they are good layers and have gentle, docile personalities. Anyway welcome to BYC:)

So it's been a while smile.png...still in Bakersfield and I have no quails now, and still haven't found any bantam Cochin sad.png I do however have a cute lil flock of different breeds...I have a bantam silkie I purchased from a local lady, a silver sebright bantam I got last year at Round up, a big red hen I got from that animal stand on Union by the fairgrounds for 2$ as a chick, 2 old English game bantams, and a Phoenix hen...and I just went n picked up 3 new chicks at Round Up...1 white silkie and 2 Mille fleur...Im actually just starting to look into the whole show bird scene...I love my birds and take such great care of them I might as well share them right? Anyway does anyone have any info on local events or information on how to get started showing birds???

I thought I'd say hello since I live in Bakersfield too! We are very new chicken owners. Our 6 oldest chicks are almost 4 weeks, Golden Sexlink. 2 silkies, 1 Easter egger and 1 Americana. smile.png A colorful mix I guess.
