Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

Wow, it's been a long time!

Our ducks are great, and doing quite well. Duke keeps us stocked up with eggs, often laying two a day. We've been giving them away we have so many! We had to add some oyster shells as treats to her diet because she was laying the occassional "rubber egg", but just a small little bit every day or so has seemed to stop that. We give it by hand as a treat so the boys don't get into it.

The boys turned out to be a Rouen and a Cayuga-Runner (a Cayuga did get into the Runner house!) Here's some pics for you all!

Oh my! They have grown so much! Good to see them doing well and that duck hut is magnificent!

Hopefully that grass will last. I put some home grown sod down and it didn't stand a chance, lol. Then again it was pretty young grass. Probably should of closed half of the pen off so it could develop a better root system. Perhaps that will be my next years project :).

I think it might last. It is mostly crab grass and clover, and has been growing in the yard for at least 30 years. But, you can see some spots where it's worn out. That's where we walk. If it starts to get thin we'll seed it.

I love their house too, it was my childhood playhouse. We almost scrapped it a couple years ago, I'm glad we didn't! We just found a dog run cheap on Craig's List and put it up around it. There's deer/hawk netting over the top.

I'm hoping our neighbor doesn't complain. According to county code we're 1.5 feet too close to her fence, but it would have been soooo much work to move the playhouse. She knows they are there though and hasn't complained yet.

Beautiful ducks and love their house. One way to win over neighbors is eggs. and keeping up with the smell.

I'm sure we'll be okay. She knew about them before they got set up there and I've known her since I was a child (the joys of buying your childhood home). It's just that if she ever did we'd have to go through all the work of pulling the house off its base for less than 2 feet! :)

Sounds like all is okay...

WOW SO AWESOME! Love your pics. I am sorry I haven't been on here for quite a while. We have been so busy this year but now things are slowing down for winter. Your ducks are absolutely LOVELY! A runner with a cayuga...who would have guessed? LOL

I think they have an absolutely beautiful home. Really wonderful for them. Wow and Duke sure lays alot of eggs. Mine never laid again since their first hatching in July.. strange, they do have all the feed and water and clean pens, so I guess they are waiting for spring to come around. I really should look into why they never laid any eggs after raising their ducklings.

You take care and I wish your and your family the very best for the upcoming holidays.
