New Chicks!

Well as f last night I successfully incubated 2 eggs under a heat lamp and a dash of water every day. My hen abandoned 2 at day 17 so I took a gamble and this is what happened... 1st at 8:30 last night other at 5:30 this morning...

Nice right. That first is my love. :love

Watched the whole thing unfold so she thinks I'm her mommy. Or he... To early to tell lol. Still drying off good.

I am getting my first chicks THIS week. I am very excited and torturing my poor husband with chicken facts.
I bought:
2 buff brahma bantams
1 welsummer bantam rooster

2 EE's
2 golden cuckoo marans
2 silver cuckoo marans
2 salmon faverolles
and 1 salmon faverolle rooster.

I bought the roosters for hen protection. I want my girls to roam my 5 acres free range in my yard. Since I live in the country in New England-- hawks are an issue. Do you think the 2 roosters will be enough to protect our 10 ladies?
I'm not moving them outside until 8 weeks so they are big enough to defend our girls.

Also, besides electrolytes and keeping the brooder at 95 degrees is there anything else I can do to ensure all my chicks live? I can't wait for all the beautiful colored eggs!

Seasoned chicken owners: you'r advice is MUCH APPRECIATED! :) Thanks _ Jess

Very nice birds. I'm a little sad because one of my 7 week old chicks disappeared Sunday. :hit was the only boy I had too... Well out of the chicks.

Will be putting my incubator on lock down tomorrow morning and raising the humidity. Wish me luck. I'll put a rag into part of the water tray and let it wick up into the area. That should increase humidity well... I also have a second set of eggs that will lock down in 5 days. Those are for a friend.
