I have a 10 acre field which is loaded with blackberry vines. how many goats will I need to clear a 10 acre field of blackberry vines? Will 3 get the job done eventually or will my field look like Sleeping Beauties castle? I don't want to spray unless I have to but I am afraid I will lose the field.

My sisters horse cleared a 2 acre wood of any underbrush in less than 2 months. The horse had access to hay and was grained lightly everyday.
I know that doesn't answer your question, but that is the best I can tell you as I am not knowledgeable about goats. My instincts tell me that 3 goats would do the job, as they are known to be land clearing machines..

I have three very fat horses (old) who only go out just far enough to eat the grass and want nothing to do with the vines. I am trying to convince my DH that goats would really help around here with the brush, mainly blackberry bramble and Chinese privet. I was wondering if 3 goats would make a big enough dent to demonstrate their usefulness.

I doubt 3 could keep up with ten acres worth (as of course they will grow back behind them) I'm not sure how many you need.. at least 5 maybe? That's still 2 acres per goat, so not sure if that's even enough.

I think 3 goats would manage the blackberries; my goats love blackberries! It's been a few years, but I had 4 goats that I put to work on about 1/2 acre of brush so dense you couldn't walk through it; it took them just a few weeks to make it passable. Unfortunately, Chinese Privet is toxic; my goats won't touch it.

3 will get it tamed down, just not immediately. If you want faster results you'll want a few more animals. If it's already that overgrown, 3 will clear it slow and steady.
