Long time hatcher, first time hatching shipped eggs! I haven't hatched in two years though so I am a bit rusty. I have been reading over my hatching journals to refresh my memory.

Anyway, I have my shipped eggs sitting in an egg carton big side up right now. My incubator has been running for two days now. About 100 degrees with 40% humidity. (Dry hatch/still air).

Any time I ever hatched eggs (I don't use an egg turner) I just lay them on their side in the bator and turn them three times a day by hand. It works well for me. As I have been reading a lot of forums and threads on here I have been getting second thoughts on how I do it. Is it smarter to hatch them upright ( like sitting in a carton) considering they're shipped and all? Or would there be no problem doing it my usual way. I just worry because we all want the air cell to stay where it needs to be and if I lay it on its side maybe it would detach again? I don't know. I need your help!

I would see where the air cells are if they are floating keep them up right. if not put them on their sides. good luck! I hatch like you.

p.s. also I have hatched in both positions before.

I am having the same quandary. My careful planning didn't work and part of what I plan on setting arrived by mail, the other part in picking up Saturday. I'm not sure how long to let these shipped eggs sit before I start them. I've decided to use a turner...it keeps them relatively upright- and then on lockdown I will use a carton. I hope it works well.

I would care more bout the position of the air cell if it floats then don't set right away, if it is normal then set, remember, the are moved about while shipping, but also sit til shipped again.
