I have new chicks tbat won't eat :-( they're drinking plenty of water but it's day 2 and still won't eat a thing...any advice?

Is the food too big for them? I feed mine fermented feed so its basically mush. I kind of peck at it with my finger to get them to notice it. Once one figures it out the rest soon follow.

What kind of flooring are they on? I line the brooder with paper towels and sprinkle some starter feed on them. They'll usually start pecking at that.
I also keep the colored parakeet pellets which are very tiny. I use the standard jar topped feeder with the red bottom and sprinkle the colored pellets on top of their starter feed. That usually gets them pecking quickly.
We have just gotten bantams for the first time and I think the starter feed was too large for some of them so for a week or so I threw the chick starter in the blender before giving it to them and it got very fine...no problems eating that.
I want to start making fermented feed. Just looking for the right container now.

They have regular organic starter feed and they have pine shavings. Our others ate right away but these ones won't. Maybe I'll put some in a blender to see if that helps
What's it made of? glass, plastic, rubber or galvanized metal? I was looking for a really big, at least one gallon glass jar. For some reason I thought it had to be glass. I tried fermenting once before and think I left it get too old and it got what I think was mold across the top.

You can try moistening it so they can handle it better at first, and try marbles or something shiny that they cant eat, put it in the dish and it will give them something to peck at.

I am currently using a plastic east bucket from Walmart (the cheap dollar ones). I have used a five gallon bucket as well when I was feeding more birds.
