Hello I need some advice on a chick. It's was born this morning. It's 1230 now and it's still laying flat. It doesnt look quite dry either. It's cheeping and lifting its head. Not sure if something is wrong with it's little legs. Two chicks hatched the day before and they are running around eating and playing. The chick that is laying flat is in a warmer. Will it be ok? How long should it take to walk?
 
If he's out of the egg he should have been able to kick out from the shell. I would make sure he gets a little water sometimes that can perk them up.
 
Hi yes it's out of the egg just not walking i am worried it's not going to be able to walk :-( it has a tiny bit of shell on its body
 
Hmmmm so how does his body look? Is he normal or have a puffy abdomen? Does he have any sensation in his feet?

Glad you could join the flock! Hatching is very hard work for chicks and your chick could be just worn out. Not all chicks are the same when they hatch. As you said it does not look like its drying out and fluffing up, it could have hatched with some albumen (egg white) still on it known as sticky chick. You may need to clean the chick up with some warm water but just make sure it does not catch a chill. I can't say your chick will be ok or when it will walk but hopefully given time and some rest it will gain some strength.

Hi everyone they are not my chicks they are at my work at the moment for esater for the pre primary kids to see hatch. They come in every year from a lady who breeds them. The teacher flipped the little chick on its back and it didn't try to turn over. I am worried about it I always worry when it comes to animals.
It was a bit more lively when I left work flapping its wings and cheeping. Then teacher is going in over the weekend to check and feed them I just hope it will be ok. It's body looks ok just not dry in one patch. Not
Sure of breed it has fluffy little feet
 
I was going to take them home for weekend but I am moving house. The following I migjt :) they are just so cute.
Would splinting the chicks legs help has anyone done these before?
