Has anyone used the peck o matic feeder (see 1st pic)?
I'm being over run with wild birds eating my chickens feed. Not only are they possibly/probably bringing in disease but I'm going through 50lbs in 2 weeks with only 8 chickens!
I purchased the automatic feeder (see 2nd pic) last year but they were afraid of the open/close action & never used it. Don't want to waist $$ if it's no good.

I have an automatic feeder like your and my chicken used for many years. The feeder don't last because they step on/off few hundred times a day. Go for it... there is nothing wrong if you have one.

This winter I had this same issue with wild birds invading my coop, run, and attacking the feeders. They were so bad that I would go open the coop even at night and a couple wild birds would be on the roost with my girls! ARG!

I made a trip to rural king and bought a 150' roll of chicken wire and covered everything. I did have 2x4 welded wire covering everything already and just went over top of that with the chicken wire. What fun freezing temperatures and nailing up chicken wire. I got cold enough that several times while cutting the wire I would get scratched or poked by the wire but didn't even know it. No more raids on the feeders so it was worth it.

I still couldn't believe that my chickens didn't seem aggressive at the small wild birds at all. We all know how they act with new cheepers in the flock and these wild birds were even smaller yet no picking or anything. They just acted like they were supposed to be there. Crazy chickens.
