Hi all,

I'm new to BYC and having backyard chickens in general. All I have to say is thank you for this site! This was where I did all of my research before deciding on whether backyard chickens were the thing for me. I just got 3 white silkies and 3 golden buff. I almost had a heart attack when I saw a huge lump on the right side of one of my golden buff chicks, thanks to a search on here I found out the chick just ate a lot and I am seeing its crop! Whew!

I believe the silkies are about 3 days old, yesterday I tried feather sexing and I'm thinking I have all pullets...what do you think?

This is what I believe to be the crop - looks larger in the picture.

Here are my silkies - I think they are pullets?

This is one of my Golden Buff - can you tell how old they are by the feathering?

I don't think wing feather sexing applies to silkies who are extremely difficult(even for breeders) to sex before 4-5 mos. of age and sometimes not till they crow or lay eggs. But. there is always hope. Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock.

I'm glad you joined our community.

Feather sexing only works for certain crosses, unfortunately. It is too young to determine gender on your Silkies. You may have to wait until they are at least 8 weeks old.

Good luck, and I hope they are all pullets!
