LRIGHT so I found this small round reddish brownish mite that is just INFESTED on my chickens and coop and backyard and they are EVERYWHERE!!! I seriously do not know what type of mite they are but I know they didnt infest my chickens beaks or scales but they stayed hidden for so long cause they infested the plummage on my chickens thighs and around the vent and back. I was checking the feathers on my chickens today and they were ALL OVER ME IN A SECOND. THEY CRAWLED ALL OVER MY ARM AND WERE SO FAST. I thank god because they don't seem to be able to drink blood from humans but they are ALL over my chickens nests and my poor broody hens are infested but I cant wash them or do anything because they are incubating eggs. I NEED HELP QUICKLY I GOT SEVIN DUST BUT DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT OR HOW TO USE IT OR IF I SHOULD JUST LAY IT OUT AROUND THE CHICKEN COOP BUT I KEEP FINDING SOME ON ME EVEN AFTER 3 SHOWERS!!! Please tell me they cant live off of the humans!!!!

I GOT A PICTURE OF ONE, TELL ME WHAT KIND OF MITE IT IS PLEASE!

Definitely mites, possibly red mites. Dust your chickens (even the broodies, they won't be off the eggs long) thoroughly under the wings and vent area (you might need a helper). Then remove all coop bedding and thoroughly dust the coop, especially corners, cracks, roosts, and nestboxes. Replace your bedding. You'll need to repeat twice at 7 and 14 days to make sure you kill all the eggs that didn't hatch during the the first treatment.

Sorry to say they will bite you, but don't worry, you'll get rid of them.

UGH! Either Sevin or permethrin dust works fine, or dust everything and treat the birds with Ivermectin, which also will work. I had birds die of severe mite infestation a few years ago; never again! Wear a good face mask when using any dusting product, they are all very bad to inhale. Mary

I got some Ivemectin Pour-On for Cattle as recommended in other threads. How do I apply it and how much? Are their eggs safe to eat after I apply the Ivermectin?

I use the injectable as a topical, so I'm not sure about the dosage. It's an unapproved drug for poultry, so there's no official egg withdrawal period. I throw eggs away for one week, because I feel better about it that way. I don't feed them to my pets or the chickens, as I don't want to prolong the chicken's exposure to the drug, or promote parasite resistance in my pets. Mary
