We have decided on the Americauna for our eggs..but in everyone's opinion what is the best meat breed to have and to be able to continue to hatch off of them??

Why settle for a 2nd or 3rd rate chicken when one can raise the CornishX ...the Gold Standard of the meat birds AND at a much less cost. So what if one can't " breed one's own " as it costs much more to keep and feed the breeders than buying the meaty and raising them for only 6-8 weeks instead of months and still being able to harvest more meat at less cost.

I do both. I do about 2 batches of Cornish x/year, and I also have DP birds.
I do it because I can....not because I can do it cheaper than the commercial ( meat or eggs ).

I enjoy & get satisfaction from it. Heck if I quit deer hunting...imagine all the beef & pork I could buy with that money.
