Hello y'all! First post here but I'm looking forward to getting to know the community. I know there must be tons of very knowledgeable people who can take a look at my chickies and hopefully give me some insight on their breed and sex. With the exception of the obvious one they are all completely white.

Thanks in advance!

Here are two from the second week they were home. The cutie in the front of the top pic is Billina, she's my only brown/red one of the bunch. I figured she made it in their tub at the Tractor Supply by mistake.

These are the chickies today, hanging out in their play pen while I garden.

My Billina.

I have a friend thinking this one is a roo - this is Stormy. My daughter named her/him. The picture makes the comb look redder than it is in person but it's definitely the biggest of my bunch.

Cute chicks! Billina looks like some sort of Red/Gold sex link, a hybred mix bred to lay a lot of eggs, they are sold under various names depending on the hatchery, Red Star, Golden Buff, ISA Brown etc.
The others are probably White Leghorns if they were sold as egg layers and are white.
The last chick does look like a cockerel with that much comb.

Agreed.

If I didn't see the White Leghorn breed on the TSC billboard does that mean they don't carry them? I'm getting increasingly worried that I have the "meaties" and I haven't really read anything good about them yet. I did get mine from the 'pullet' bin but who knows.

I don't think they are meat birds, not the Cornish Cross type that you've heard negative reviews about, as they are staying the same size or smaller than your Red Sex Link. I think the white birds are Amber Links or Tetra Tints, a cross between a RIR and White Leghorn...excellent layers like the RSL....I say that because they are not completely white but have a red blush typical of the Amber Link.

If they were Cornish X, they would be noticeably bigger than the size of the RSL at this age. Cornish Cross meat birds are bred to come to table by 8 weeks at about 5 to 6 lbs, so their growth rate is phenomenal, which is the root to many of their health issues. You would see a big difference between their growth rate and the RSL....much more than Stormy the roo (and yes, I believe that is a roo).

From the number of people on BYC who ask about what they got at TSC, or have discovered what they have is not what TSC advertised, I would not take any stock in any sign or lack thereof....not to disparage any fine workers at TSC... just a personal observation on the "What Breed or Gender" board.
