Females attacking males???

I've had been breeding Japanese quails for the last few month everything's been fine till a few weeks ago the females attacked the males. I've keept them apart for a few weeks and tryed to slowly reintroduce them, but the females aren't having a bar of it. It's strange do quails have a breeding season? Or have my quails joined a feminist liberation movement? I keep them in smaller breeding cages but both groups of females are attacking the male. I have 2 females to each male and 2 square feet of floor space per bird with hiding holes yet I can't seem to reintroduce a male to a cage without blood please help!?
 
First off never introduce a male into the hen's cage. They will try to kill the intruder. Always put the hens into the male's cage.

Second two hens is not enough for a male coturnix. They do much better with 5-7 hens. With only two they will quickly get over bred by the male and get testy to more advances by him, probably because he has plucked their heads or injured them from repeated mating attempts.

Why did you separate them in the first place, if you don't mind me asking?
 
The females attacked him good and proper, he was pretty messed up, surprised he lived, they were all hunky dory for 3 months got 4 batches of chicks out of them but they just had enough both groups of females and attacked the males.
