I originally posted about "Never Crow Cockerels". unfortunately, soon after one did and I removed the information. It rarely crowns now (the other has yet to crow!) but it seems an interesting variation to those cockerels I have had before that seem to never stop.
I must say at this point that I personally like the crowing of cockerels and am blessed by neighbours who are of the same ilk. I have had many friends who have had earlier bloodlines from me that wanted a cockerel but couldn't because of disturbing those around them.This line might eventually prove useful in this area. It would be great to see bantam breeding back in the centre of cities.
 
Sounds interesting. Keep us posted if you're able to reliably reproduce this trait.

By "rarely crows" do you mean he crows once a month, once a year or only once a day? Could make a big difference to those in cities!
 
Hi....not once daily / weekly / monthly ...JUST ONCE or TWICE, His brother has never crowed. I doubt whether this will be a definite phenomenon as it is so unusual. I think it is worth selecting from the non (or least) crowing lines as the advantages to some keepers are notable.
They are about a year old and I am rearing chicks from them. Two of the hens are from the same bloodline. I think it may be that the less dominant male would crow if the other was not around?. What do you think? If they both start crowing I will post it.
I have a couple of questions:
If I am short of space in my Brinsea 20's are there any ideas for getting a few more eggs in. I keep them there until the 18th day and the I put them in a big static incubator. It seems very hard to keep the humidity up in that in the winter .... I've put in sponges and things ??
Normally, the eggs in my Brinsea's are laying side-ways. Would it be better to keep them big end up?
