A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

She has all ten poults now and will get to keep them as long as nothing goes wrong. She is isolated from the rest of the flock and seems to be doing well with them.

Years ago I was grabbing poults from a hen out in the open when they scattered all over the place. I wish I had a camera with me back then. I was down to the last missing poult which had gotten 100' away from the hen. Previously it would take off every time that I reached for it but the last time it found a huge cottonwood leaf and stuck its head under the leaf. Because it couldn't see it assumed that it couldn't be seen. I had a good laugh as I spotted this headless body next to this huge leaf. It never even moved as I reached for it and made the final capture.
Adorable!

I have six Sweetgrass that were hatched earlier. The first four are at least 3 weeks older than the two youngest ones. The older four turned out to be three toms and one hen. The younger ones are probably one tom and one hen.

Oh my, oh my... I’ve never see. Your birds. Wow. Breathtaking

I'm toying with the idea of putting the RP and BR toms back in the hotel suites and give it another try. My supposed last hatch is in the bator now... But wondering if the cooler temps will produce appropriate poults.

You debate that while i debate puttin my rabbits together now or waitin another monthish. :/. I am on the fence too. Night temps have been much cooler here (in the high 60s) but daytime swings from 80-90s.... i dont want to stress the does out bad doin it too soon. But i also dont care so much for many winter litters either. Heck Bugs might still be heat sterile at this point. I dunno. I do know that my rabbit supply is gettin mighty low though. :(. Eesh. Decisions decisions.

Esther showed three turkeys at the fair this year. They judge all turkeys here as meat birds so the bb turkeys win every time. Also, they have to hit 25 lbs for Jakes 6 months and under and 15lbs for jennies to sell as market birds. So, Esther wants to go to the sale committee meeting this year to motion for an amendment adding heritage turkey to the market animal list, since a heritage turkey can't reach those weights even if you stuck a feeding tube in them and gave them nothing but corn. On the plus side, her buddy Ablyn placed reserve champion fanciest feathered bird, out of 48 other various birds. The champion was a silver phoenix, probably at least 2 years old with perfect tail feathers longer than my arm. Ablyn always keeps his tail in excellent condition. The judge was surprised by how well a turkey kept his tail and wings so nice.
