A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

32°F here and it is white out.

You can keep it there!

It was hot humid yesterday. I technically don't work anymore but I went back to help at the shop yesterday since they were hosting an extension to the Apple cider festival. Usually only 1 person runs the store (convenience/hardware/country gifts/food) but there were 4 of us yesterday. It was VERY VERY busy. I'd never seen so many people in there lol. We worked for 10 hours and my feet hurt today but we had a good day. I took cookies in to share and we all went together to get a big bag of kettle corn to munch on. My bosses are pretty awesome. They sent all of us home with a gallon of apple cider, I got the rest of the pizza (a whole pie) and everyone else got a sub. We thought it was hot in there all day but all the people were coming in, buying water and saying how cool it was in there. Must've been very hot.

As soon as Daisy gets all her feathers in I need to take some glamour shots. I'm fascinated by how her black spots change yearly. This year she is sporting long black streaks on her tail. I'm going to put her on one of my grooming tables & stack her like I would a dog. LOL. Humor me, I realize she's no more beautiful than any other blue slate hen with new feathers. I'll be sending the pics to my family just to annoy them! My family, who think she looks prehistoric, still doesn't get the turkey "thing". My family is divided into two camps. Those who are polite about it, ( Yes dear she is pretty, for a turkey) and those who just assume I've lost my mind & need intervention. LOL!!

I need to get some pictures of Cuddles and Romeo with their gorgeous new feathers. Especially cuddles. Her white featheres are covered in cute little black speckles!

Seriously....how can Cuddles be even cuter? Romeo & Cuddles are such cool turkeys!

Took the girls for a stroll last night. I've been mostly keeping them in back away from folks during the worst of their molt. Due to excessive grumpiness. Had several folks stop to inquire where they've been. Ended up a yard down chatting with several neighbors. Girls joined in. Got the feeling they both missed social hour! Wonder if that's possible.

Guess the good thing about our prolonged heat is there are still a lot of green munchables available for the girls. And little bugs in the grass for hunting. Both ate their fill on our stroll last night. AND its acorn season! Get a lot falling in my driveway. I step on 'em & the girls are standing by to eat 'em. Yes, they are spoiled....I step on them & crack them open. It's like popping bubble wrap!

Rjohns....the inbound hurricane is veering east of us....are you going to catch some of the rain?

Are acorns really ok for them to eat? I thought they had something in them and they weren't ok to eat without processing?

Acorns are fine for turkeys to eat. Wild turkeys eat them all the time without having @memphis step on the acorns for them.

Acorns contain lots of tannin that make them bad tasting to people. The tannins can be removed by boiling the shelled acorns multiple times and discarding the tannin filled water.
