Good luck with her! I hope she is okay!
Did you notice any runny eyes, sneezing or discharge from her nostrils?
How is her crop?

Aurora- good luck today!
Didn't notice any of those things. I checked her crop (at least I think I did) and it seemed empty. I'm wondering if maybe she's got worms.

Definitely not broad breasted type though. They should be plenty for thanksgiving. One dressed out at 8-9 lbs, the other at 7 lbs. Here are pictures as requested. They're the same bird in the first two pictures but both pretty much looked the same.

Do you have a plucker that you used or did you do it by hand?

Good Question, describe the scalding and plucking methods, I am always looking for a better easier way.

Great looking birds Aurora! I want to know how you pluck them too!

Chaos. ...what's the latest on you hen?

Ralph, thanks for the description on the feeders. Would the same thing work with a 5 gallon bucket? Seems like it would.....

Spent all day judging a dog show. I'm toast!

I would think anything would work, but the larger it is the more storage room and the less often you need to fill it. I put a barrel lid inside the barrel on the bottom angled towards the hole to help funnel the feed that direction.

I would think a 30 gallow barrel would be about as small as you would want to go. That would hold 2-3 bags of feed.

We scalded and plucked by hand. It worked out ok. We did rip the skin a couple times but not too bad.

No. Should we? Lol we rinse them with cold water here and there to get the loose feathers that are stuck on it offb but that's Isuzu when we're almost done plucking and can't tell what's just laying there ands what's attached.

I found if I use real hot water and do not dunk them for too long then move them to a cold water dunk the feathers came out and the skin did not tear.

If the feathers are still tight repeat and try pulling them again.  When we started doing this we no longer tore the skin at all.
