Chokecherries are not poisonous. They are very astringent and make superb wine, jelly and syrup. I can never harvest any because the birds get them before I do. They will let the yellow chokecherries get ripe enough for me to pick. The yellow ones are not as astringent as the black ones.Someday. I believe my neighbor has giving me some of that at one time. She makes it from rose hips also. All things most people would never use. She is very into natural living on all things in nature. I'm just the lucky one that gets to eat them all.Try chokecherries.

Apparently, the seeds contain amygdalin. I've swallowed cherry pits before though, amygdalin isn't bad for you unless you eat a lot of it. (I've eaten a peach pit before.)
Nice to see that there are still some folks out there that still use all that nature gives us so much of that is lost this day in age. If it isn't on store shelves most have never heard of such things.@Bantambird does the rose hips.
Pin cherries make great jelly . They do no grow here . My source up north died out .Try chokecherries.
