My turkeys are about 5 months old. Toms are strutting and trying to get with the hens... How long before they start laying?
Everything I've heard says that they start laying their first spring. Mine are also about 5 months and no eggs yet. I know there are others who have started early - but I'm not going to expect any until spring
Ralph, that hen is beautiful. And I can see the sandy feathers.
Fiesty....remind me, you have how many hens?
Retired Ron, no idea why, but I have one hen laying.
I have one solo hen And 4 boys. She may end up living on the other side of the barn with the chickens if the boys start to harass her. So far she puts up with no shennanigans from them, and slaps them down if they get out of line, but I'm keeping my eye on it
Aurora! Sounds like your having a Merry Christmas! Sounds like your husband is in the Christmas spirit!
Feisty, I thought it was the one hen.
I've been a bum all day. I'm at my other house in Missouri. Have a party tonight, then tomorrow off to my sisters. So I've been catching up on my reading. Loving it! Just miss my hens. Also grateful the tornado missed us. And I still can't believe how warm it is.
This weather is so strange!
If one of mind goes broody...I "may" get fertile eggs. I'm just so worried I'd fall in love with them all & want to keep everyone! One of these days when I retire I'll have the space & time for more turkeys.
Feisty, are you going to put her with one of the boys (Turkulus ) and let her brood?
Big Bird loooves Turkules, so I'll probably let her stay with him. She follows him everywhere, eats with him, roosts beside him. If she goes broody, then I think I'll let her sit on some eggs and see how she does I'm terrified of getting more boys though - yikes, no more boys!
