A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

My daughter came home from college and Knothead, our 3 month old poult who usually loves her to pieces when nuts, turning red and doing his little "pew pews" like mad. She sat down and he/she ran to her making this crazy trilling sound and grabbed her hat off her head, threw it behind him and then stomped it to death. Craziest thing we've seen. Obviously he believed the hat was a head sucking alien that had to be dispatched quickly. Here is a picture of the little lifesaver.
Your little he/she is a he. Nice looking little tom.

Lol, what a great little protector! That's adorable :)

Knothead is a cutie!

Ralph & Gevshiba, love the turkey tails hanging out of the nest boxes.

I agree Ralph, we need turkey wrasstling videos! Tis the season!

I have a quick question for all if you who are so muxh more experienced. Is it possible to have a chicken hatch poults? I have a stubbornly broody dark brahma, sweet as can be, and was thinking if shes so bent on sitting, perhaps i should order eggs. I do not need more chickens tho lol, but have totally fallen under the spell of our poults. Turkey math is even worse than chicken math. I appreciate any advice, just want to make sure its not a horrid idea lol. Thanks!!!!

Absolutely yes. I have a broody Cornish/Brahma cross hen that is currently sitting on turkey eggs that are due to hatch tomorrow but as much as she was "talking" yesterday, I expect the hatch today. This is her 2nd time at hatching poults and she has also hatched keets for me.

Good luck.

My friend has some chronically broody Lav Orps, so I stuck 5 turkey eggs under 2 co-broodies. I expect them to do just fine. One of the hens was the one mothering the kitten, who is in a new home, btw and doing very well.

I've noticed that broodiness seems to be contagious

. I really wish they would keep it to themselves at my place - I don't want anyone hatching anything lol!

Ralph - I was wishing that I had my phone with me for the turkey wrassling, but no such luck

If there is a repeat performance, I'll certainly try to catch it. Must confess that while I was lifting Coco with the broom, I was more focused on keeping my digits unbloodied than recording the experience

I expected them all to go broody and it's fine with me. I just wish my SS would catch the bug and stick with it!

This is a very selfish attitude! You should be thinking about us and our needs. Donating a few phlanges to the cause is not too much for us to ask.

I am sure they could, unless they get discouraged and stop sitting before the 28th day. I hatched guineas under a hen for 25 days.

ROFLMAO!!!

Turkeys are so amazing!

I am going to throw two out of three turkeys off the nest today. I am going to let them free range for a week or two with the boys before I make them start laying for me again.
