Hi al! New to everything and am trying to determine if my 4-5 week old EE is a cockerel or pullet. Can anyone tell? She/he has a small splash of red/brown on the very tops of the wings near the saddle, white feathering on the head and chest, and black feathers coming in on the neck/hackle.

My guess would be hen but EEs can be difficult i have a three 11-12 week old EEs and i still some days think one is a cockrel and others day i am sure i have 3 pullets. If she/he starts getting red in the wattles and comb it is a rooster.

I'd have to guess cockerel, based on the red/brown coming in on the tops of the wings. I had one that looked very similar at this age - Scout, the Wonder-roo.

Scout at 4.5 weeks....hard to see but on the tops of his wings where they join the body is a little rusty orange patch on each side. But at this stage we were all convinced he was a she.

Scout at 5 months. Not much doubt now.

So this her/him a couple 2 weeks after the original pics posted. Lucy now has the same type of feathers from the neck on her saddle. I can't tell if they're pointed or rounded. They have some white fuzz just on the outside of the black points that make it appear round, but yet some of her smaller new feathers a little higher on her neck look more pointed. Her 3 pea comb has a flaming color, where all my other chicks still have yellow combs including the other EE (supposed to be ameraucana) that is the same age as Lucy. Lucy is very mellow, but doesn't like to be picked up. She's also quiet, and is the boss in a subtle way. I'm still really concerned she's a he. Any intake?
