It's all about what your intentions are going into the hobby or industry. If you just want chickens to feed in the mourning and admire through the day that's what you do. If you go into it with the intention of feeding your family and knowing how the chicken was raised before cull. I do both now I have had some chickens that I got attached to and were set to be culled but were saved by my heart. There's nothing wrong with eating chickens you raised trust me they had a better life with you then they would of had most places. Also if you hatch a lot like I do there just becomes a overwhelming amount of roosters you have no choice but to cull. I have 13 roosters and 80 percent of them missed the chopping block because I fell in love with them. I also have a lot of land and plenty of hens. Just make sure if you don't want to eat your chickens don't start hatching and hatching because you'll get overwhelmed very quickly.this is an open discussion for all views
do you agree with eating your chickens?
