Can't do the deed and frustrated

Well I still have the buggers :/ bf agreed to do the killing but we've been so busy that it's been delayed. Hoping for next weekend!i know I'll be fine for butchering, and hoping to work up to the actual killing.

I had to mercy kill a chick and it was easiest to chop the head off with a hatchet. Maybe because it was a mercy kill but also because I could just about close my eyes and let the ax (or whatever it is called) fall on its own. I know a slit is supposed to be better, but maybe a different method will ease you in to it? I couldn't touch the bird once it was dead, but if I had to do it, maybe I would have. I just dug a hole and buried it. My husband thought that was crazy, but it got me through that first time.
