Hello! Ok so this is my first time hatching duck eggs. I have 9 that I know are alive by candling and they are moving, but some have different hatch dates. I have one egg on day 27, no internal pip but still moving around. That one is on lockdown. My question is: i would say about 10-15% of the egg at the small end is still a yellowish color. From my research it sounds like the whole egg other than the air cell should be filled with ducky by now. I tried to take a pic but in pics it does look all black, but not when I candle it. So I'd say about 40% is air cell (slanted) then 50% ducky and the last 10% a yellow color. Is this normal?? I know it's alive right now but I'm freaking out it won't hatch. I know I have my temps and humdity correct. Just wondering if that's what the egg should like at this point. Thanks so much.

This is a good chart for duck egg development, does yours look about right compared to this? Sometimes they can also just take an extra day or two to finish developing and be ready to hatch, 28 days is just a guideline.

Thank you so much for your response! I have seen this chart before, but I just don't feel like my egg looks like that :/. The air cell looks right and is at the fat end then the ducky but the small end of the egg is still a yellow color. Should the body be completely filling all of the small end too?

It probably should be, but I've never hatched crested ducks. It could be turned around wrong, or it could simply be underdeveloped. Sadly, with crested ducks the possibility of malformations is always looming overhead :/ Try to PM Lacrystol, she's pretty good at giving hatching advice.

I really appreciate your response. Thanks! Ya, I'm concerned there might be a deformality or something. I'll just keep my fingers crossed. I'll definitely be giving updates though.

Please do! I'm rootin' for ya little guy, please hatch! <3

I checked on him tonight, I'm not seeing any movement :(. I have a feeling he may be deformed or underdeveloped. I don't think he is alive anymore. I'm crushed. I dont even know what else to say about it. So depressing. I have another egg due to hatch in about 7 days and is looking good so far, of course now I'm worried that it (and my others)won't make it, or worse, make it all the way to hatch day and then die :(
I'll keep updating for my other eggs. Thank you for your support.

Don't lose hope on your other eggs just because this one didn't make it, ok? It just happens sometimes. Good luck with the others, and keep us updated!

Ok I'm trying to stay hopeful for the others. I know white crested ducks have a high mortality rate, but still, I'm worried it's my fault. My temp has been 99-101 and humidity from 55-65. I do seem to have a difficult time maintaining the humidity at a constant number. During lockdown, I had the humidity fluctuating between 70-85. My temp was between 97-99. Is my temp and humidity fluctuating too much that it could cause harm?
