Fertile Egg Questions

Almost immediately. As it cools and the contents contract, the cell appears.

ETA
After that, the cell grows as the water content evaporates through the pores.

Does a fertile egg have an air sac in it when it's laid?
Infertile eggs have a air cell too. This is really what the "Float test" is showing, the size of the air cell... The older a egg gets, the more water evaporates thru the shell. The water leaving the shell creats a void which increases the size of the air cell.... This is why a very fresh egg, with a small air cell, will sink. Not enough air to hold it up. As the air cell grows, it becomes large enough to float the egg. The "High Floater" is considered bad because its old enough to either have developed a very large air cell, or it has started to spoil and the bacteria are creating gas. The bad smell of a bad egg...

I didn't catch that the OP asked about fertile eggs. ALL eggs have an air pocket when they cool after being laid. Fertility has nothing to do with it. A fertile egg will have a few extra cells.
