Dog Problems

Actually, yeah...she did tell me that. They were random hens and I offered to go purchase younger bred ones OR give her the money it would cost me to do that (which local here...is almost 60 dollars). She was trying to make them to be a higher bred chicken to get more money out of me and that is why I'm not just going to hand over the money. The police even advised me to do that. Chicken owners in the area advised me to do that.
I came on here to get advice from you and I could have done without the attacks and personal feelings. I understand how some chickens can be like pets...like I mentioned before-- i have some friends who have coops and I know and understand the upkeep.

Thank you for the feedback though to those that were helpful.

I had my dog Dodge, he's my photo now, once kill one of my neighbors hens 6 years ago. My neighbor brought him back to me and told me he didn't shoot him because I was new in the neighborhood, but he did say the hen had been passed down to him and has been in his family three generations, he wanted $100. Paid. Most people may say way more than the chicken was worth, but my dog did get out and kill one of his chickens on His property, and he was kind enough not to kill my dog, and even brought him back, although I might say he was quite peeved. I've moved since then, but I've never had to pay premium hen price since because I've made sure my animals are secure in my yard now.

Btw this was awhile ago before I had chickens of my own. I didn't know how long chickens lived and I believed for the longest time that this hen had been in his family for three generations. DOH!

Could he have meant it was the descendant of a hen the family had gotten three generations ago?

I don't think he meant a lie, maybe he meant one relative passed her along to another after they had chicks from her - maybe he thought that was generations. Price was still too high. Your were probably the only one who ever paid him. I bet other dogs got his chickens too.

Don't feel bad, my friend wanted a chicken as a pet maybe 30 years ago. The only one they could find was in a news paper ad. The lady said she had only one to sell that didn't lay anymore - get this - she asked $ 100 for the hen which included shipping and my friend paid it. She told me this a few years ago when I met her, she won't pay anything near that price for a chicken nowadays . The nerve of the seller - all that money for an hen too old to lay eggs. Probably too old and tough to eat- must have laughed herself sick over how she cheated a city slicker.

Pay $100.00. Pay the $100.00. Pay the $100.00. She is being very generous with you. She could make this into a big stink, shoot your dog, sue you, even if she looses it will not be worth it.

Pay the $100.00 and count your blessings. No question.

If it had been me... you would still be wondering what had become of your dog.

The three S's are no joke... shoot, shovel and shut up.

Pay the lady! She's being very nice! My dogs would happily kill every chicken in the county, including mine. That's why they are in Ft. Knox fencing 24/7; electric, Invisible Fencing, and five ft. Chainlink. Worth every dime to me in peace of mind. Mary

The $100 payment should be encased in a note card in which you've written an apology for your negligence and for your initial insensitivity. You are very much in the wrong, and owe the woman a sincere apology.
