What are the benefits of having a rooster in your flock?

I'm raising a lap rooster pretty much right now. He's still learning the ropes of being a rooster all the while still being docile. I'm keeping him because the girls seem to enjoy having a roo,but at the same time I needed a gentle fella so everyone would stay in good condition. Fertile eggs, an early warning system, 4am alarm clock and hen fight bouncer are all wonderful reasons to keep him. This is my first lap rooster and I've got to say it's pretty weird but im kind of liking it. :)
