Lockdown Humidity Question... Fill all water reservoirs?

Yeah. Well in trying to get enough humidity, I bought a brand new huge sponge and cut it to fit the bowl (or so I thought) but must have had a bit too much water in it. Poor baby. Won't do that again. Another question: the two that were partially hatched but were super dry... The one hatched fine. The second one, it looks like I may have accidentally scraped the inner liner when I put on the bacitracin. There was a little dot of blood; but looks like it dried up. The chick is still peeping and breathing, so of course will leave it be.. do you think it will be all right?

If it stopped bleeding it should be fine. Sorry about the mishap with the sponge/water bowl. That must have been horrible to see.

Yeah. I've nicked small veins, examining chicks to asses if they were ok and I just dabbed some water on the spot and put them back in. It's when you get a lot of blood that is worriesome.

Oh thank heavens!

I should maybe clarify the "little drop of blood" comment. I suppose little for us but seeing how this chock is a Nankin, so isn't big to start with I would say it's about a pea sized scab now. Will wait for it. I keep thinking the 6 that haven't done much yet are late. However, I remembered in my sleep deprived state that they aren't really "due" until tonight.......:he

Well. The 2nd dry one hatched. I was particularly worried about this one as when it got dry another chick floundered over it's she'll on the air pocket end and broke off the shell. All that was left was the membrane. I thought if I put it between the wall and the sponge it could use those to leverage itself out. It did but tore the umbilical doing so a little bit. I stopped the bleeding gently put more bacitracin on it and put it back where it was to hatch. It's exhausted. I hope it will be ok.

Ok. All but 3 have pipped or zipped. Can't argue with those odds at this time.....we will see if they all survive.. thanks everyone for your help we could have done it without you!

AmyLynn here is a good question for you... bad for me maybe.

Yesterday I transferred eggs from the incubator to the hatcher. Several hours later I realized I was on day 17 and not 18. Last night I put them back in the incubator... this morning the actual 18th day they went back to the hatcher...

Do you think the spike in humidity yesterday for 10 hours or so could do harm?

No. You actually could have left them in lockdown and it wouldln't have hurt. (Unless you have extrememly small air cells, then a higher humidity at an earlier day is certainly not going to help.) Humidity effects the egg over the course of incubation not on any one given day. On hatch it's important so the eggs have the moisture they need to hatch out w/out membranes drying out. So don't worry about it, you should be perfectly fine if everything has been on progress up to now.

Good luck. Hope you have lots of hatchers.
