I have a new Cayuga duckling (Splash) that I got 3 weeks ago. Everything had been going fine until he got into the adult duck feed today at around 12:30. His crop became clogged and stuck out on the right side as if he had swallowed a lipstick tube. I rushed him to the vet and they were able to empty it. He came home at around 4 and between 5 and 7:30 ate a banana (in very tiny pieces) and some duckling feed. His crop became a bit hard but by the end of the night had gone away. Today, his crop is hard again from eating. What is causing this and how can I stop it and prevent it in the future?

Does the duckling get crumbles 24/7 with water?

Wondering if the little one gets super hungry and gorges.

Another thought is, perhaps it is not getting a tiny bit of chick sized grit daily, so it cannot "chew" its food.

yes, the duckling has food and water available to it all times. Or I should say "had" because i've been trying to only give it a bit of food at a time since the issue has arose. Because now every time he eats, the right side of his crop becomes very hard.

Chick sized grit?

Chick grit - smaller than grit you would give to an adult.

I wonder if there is some kind of blockage. I might consider putting just a tiny bit - the size of a pea - of coconut oil on some food. I am thinking something that might soothe and lubricate the digestive tract.
