Alfalfa pellets

You can. They're an easy way to add some green to the diet when they can't free range. If they are normal horse size pellets, you need to soak them first. You might have to toss a little scratch on top the first few times. They work well if you do fermented feed. Just mix them all together.

There's a long post on here about it. Basically it's just some layer feed, some grains or alfalfa pellets, cover with water than let it sit for 3-4 days. Feed it. I've never done it but am going to try it next winter. Mine free range year round but I had a terrible drop in production this winter so I'm game to try anything to enhance their diet in the winter.https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/645057/fermented-feeds-anyone-using-them

I have laying pellets alfalfa pellets scratch I also got alfalfa cubes too. I usually get greens( organic compost) from the farmers market on Sunday's but it Goes
Bad really fast. So I will make a mixture of grains that I listed and see how that works.

Alfalfa cubes aren't as good. There are longer stems in them. I found a few bags of cubes that boarders had left (they were about 10 years old but still good) and I just tossed them on the floor of the run. They got snowed and rained on and finally fell apart. The chickens scratch at them and ate most of the leaves but there was a pile of stems left behind. Pellets are chopped than pressed so they fall apart easily.
