Hi,
I am in western Pennsylvania, USA. I have all pure English strain Light Sussex. If I had your hen, I would search around England for a pure Nick Smith strain rooster. Then put him over your hen. Breed the female descendants back to that rooster for 3 generations. The key here is the acquisition and use of the Nick Smith rooster. It must be pure strain. At the end of the 3rd generation of breeding the females back to your Nick Smith rooster, the chicks from that 3rd generation will be about 7/8th's Nick Smith. His was a very famous strain which won high honors at England's best poultry shows. It was dispersed about 3 years ago across the U.K. .
My avatar is my best hen, "May", she is from the Walt Boese pure English flock in Montana, USA. May is 10 months old in this pic. She is 3 now and currently sitting eggs sired by her son, "Tux".
Best,
Karen

Well, if you can't find a Nick Smith cock, look for a Cheshire Poultry pure strain cock ( website). They combined the Nick Smith and Bernard Thompson (another top-winning strain) strains to make their prize-winning flock. I don't know if Cheshire is still breeding Light Sussex. But even if they aren't they can probably tell you where to acquire a cock for your hen. Ok , here's their Light Sussex webpage : https://cheshirepoultry.co.uk/light-sussex-chickens-large-fowl/ Says they are currently out of Light Sussex, but they could tell you who they sold to for some more sources for you.
Wherever you get him from, your cock must be of the very highest quality. Then in 3 generations of breeding back to him, you will have a lovely flock of Light Sussex.
