So I have a chick that pipped 24 hours ago and I think it can't zip. It is trying the push itself out of the shell and when it does you can see that the shell has a couple cracks going in the wrong way of that makes sense. Is this normal? Or is this the actual process of zipping? Not sure if I should intervene or not! Also, do the membranes look dried out?

I'd help it out, 24 hours is normal but if it's having an issue might as well aid it some now. It seems the thin sell broke apart and may be why it can't push the two halves apart. Just use some tweezers and carefully continue to zip the shell. The tweezers will take small chips so you can continue the zip. After an inch of that he'll probably push the egg halves apart and hatch right in your hand if not then put the egg back in incubator as it's best for their legs to pop into position if they push the shell apart themselves.

Sorry! As soon as I read Egghead Jr's advice I helped the chick finish the zip and put the egg back in the incubator and it immediately pushed out. I greatly appreciate the advice since it gave me the confidence to do it! And I'm so glad I did since it's a BIG chick lol! Doing fine so far! A little gooey like the humidity was off a bit but otherwise fine!
