Jumping late into this thread, but am glad I found it! I unhooked my auto-turner as it was rocking them for about the first16 hrs and of course, the above mentioned cut-out egg carton....so I'll see what they all look like on Day 3. Have 7 Welsummers and 9 Blue Wheaten!
Thanks for the link! Loads of info & it makes sense. Did crack open a torpedo-shaped egg for fertility (sigh....really not sure why an experienced chicken breeder would send oddly shaped eggs when he's perfectly aware they're for hatching. Just have to vent! ) Anyways, the membranes were pretty detached with a big air sac. So I did let the others sit for over 24hrs to help stabilize. Will treat them all like NICU babies.
