Trying to build my flock of Pilgrims, so I've been looking for unrelated stock. I have my single pair who are currently laying (there are 6 eggs incubating nicely at the moment), I have a pair of goslings from Metzer (should have been two pairs, but that's another story

), and I have eggs coming from someone on byc. Question: I took the babies out for a short walk down to the goose pasture. We were on the other side of the fence. My gander had a fit when he saw them. He's a yearling, so hasn't seen babies before, but I guess I was a little surprised as I've heard that geese often "adopt" goslings without much of an issue. This is the first time I'll be introducing goslings, and I'd sure appreciate advice from others on how to do it as smoothly as possible.
Thanks, Becky

I'd let him get use to them in case he isn't as nice as Boris [flockmans gander]
My gander also adopts ducklings [before I had other geese] and last year 2 goslings that we brought home at 2 days old although the adults didn't get to keep them till they were 3 weeks old. But they got to spend time together daily. I was worried they may get stepped on and I wanted to have them in the house for a while so it was 3 weeks before my pair got them.I guess I was a nervous ninny.
Precious pic.
