Sorry I join a year ago and did some reading. Mostly a lurker. Not trying to be rude. We live in a area where dial up net is still dominate. Its quite hard for us to chat and spend time on groups because it take like 10 times longer than if we had real internet. My chickens have been fine until a couple days ago. Now I have one very sick girl. My vet is not a chicken guy. And from asking around its not common practice for people here to treat I'll chickens. They mostly just hope for the best or cull them. So I'm at a loss. And help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Hi and welcome to our flock!

So glad you could join BYC! Lots of us lurked on this site before joining (and still lurk around). I myself forgot to make a New Member Introduction when I joined and never got around to it.

I'm sorry to hear about your sick chicken! It is always hard when one of your beloved birds turns up sick. I suggest going to the Emergencies section and posting there: Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures Be sure to describe in detail the symptoms of your chicken. Hopefully, you can get some good help there! Many chicken diseases are treatable and don't require you to cull them.

Good luck with your sick bird! I hope she turns out all right.

Thanks so much. I've been posting in that section since yesterday. Got a bit of help, but honestly I don't know if I'm doing right by hen. Thinking sour crop, gi infection. Trying to treat for both but feel so hopeless. Thanks a in for the warm welcome I have 5 healthy girls to chat about.

Yep...been a byc junkie reading all that I can. Washed her bottom, and gave her meds. Kinda force feed about a tsp of keifier and to my shock she her wet food tonight! Its the first she ate on her own in a day
