I am so thankful for backyardchickens and the members. You guys made it possible for me to prepare for my little chicks. We made the decision about 8 weeks ago to build a chicken house and have our own flock. We ordered buff orphingtons and finished the coop just enough to corner out a temporary brooder corner. They arrived just two days ago and they are doing great. I am still researching for roost ideas and undecided about homemade windows or used ones. I think i will have a poop tray just below the roost with sand to help with the cleaning. Any ideas would be appreciated. :D
Thanks,

Hi Melissa, nice to meet you. Sounds like you already picked up several good ideas regarding your coop, roosts and poop tray. You should love your Buff Orps, very good breed, and hens tend to go broody, so they could brood & hatch your next generation.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Your idea for a sand filled poop tray below the roost sounds like a good one. Buff Orpingtons are a wonderful breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are hardy, friendly and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and good layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Buff Orps.
